(UPDATED: 1:30 p.m.) -- Weather Bureau PAGASA advises the public to brace for typhoon 'Hagupit' which continues to barrel its way towards Visayas.
Citing forecast models, PAGASA says, the typhoon will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 8 a.m. on Thursday (Dec. 4) and will be called 'Ruby'.
The typhoon is currently bearing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of 170 kph and is forecast to move west northwest at 30 kph.
PAGASA is looking at several scenarios, including the possibility it could re-curve towards the north and bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the Bicol region and the Visayas.
FIRST SCENARIO
First, Hagupit can make landfall in Visayas on Saturday afternoon or evening and bring rains to Western Visayas, Mindoro and Palawan as it makes its way to the Sulu Sea.
If Hagupit will make landfall, it is projected to bring moderate to intense rains (5 to 20 millimeters per hour) and storm surges.
Rainfall models show it could bring moderate to heavy rainfall over Southern Luzon, Palawan and much of the central islands from December 7 to 8 and possible flash floods and landslides and 3 to 4 meter storm surges.
SECOND SCENARIO
The other possible scenario is for Hagupit to skirt the Philippine landmass due to the weakening of the high pressure area (HPA) in the northern hemisphere. This will force Hagupit to move towards southern Japan.

As a precautionary measure, PAGASA warns those in the said areas against possible flashfloods and landslides while those in the coastal areas are alerted against rough to very rough seas.

Metro Manila is also expected to experience light rains, as well as the rest of Luzon, also because of the presence of the northeast monsoon over Northern and Central Luzon.

PAGASA adds, by tomorrow, they will see a clearer picture of the forecast track of Typhoon Hagupit, once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

DNA samples taken from US Marine Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton did not match with those taken from the used condoms found in the room where transgender Jeffrey “Jennifer” Laude was found dead last month, it was reported yesterday.

The results of the forensic examination conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory were submitted to the Olongapo City Prosecutor’s Office during preliminary investigation yesterday of the murder case filed against Pemberton.

Earlier this month, buccal samples and fingerprints were taken from Pemberton to determine if the samples from the used condoms found at the Celzone Lodge would match his DNA.

In the same report, Olongapo City chief prosecutor Emilie Fe delos Santos noted that the prosecutors handling the case will also consider other evidence submitted during the preliminary investigation, including the testimonies of eyewitnesses who saw Pemberton enter the lodge with Laude on the night he was believed killed.

Pemberton is currently detained in a container van-turned-detention cell at the Mutual Defense Board Security Engagement Facility inside Camp Aguinaldo.

Laude, 26, was brutally killed on Oct. 11, allegedly by the US serviceman. He was found dead in a room in the lodge, the victim’s head pushed in the toilet.

The autopsy report showed that he died from drowning, even as he suffered various injuries in his body.

Investigators earlier found two used condoms in the room where Laude’s body was found, prompting lawyers of the Laude family to request for samples of Pemberton’s DNA.

The incident has renewed calls for renegotiation or outright abrogation of the Visiting Forces Agreement, which critics said is skewed in favor of US servicemen accused of committing criminal acts in the country.
Philippine boxing champion Manny Pacquiao waves to his fans during his victory parade …
World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao said Thursday he would sell his mansion in one of the Philippine capital's swankiest areas after his neighbours complained of his visitors wearing shabby clothing.
Pacquiao told AFP that as a "man of the masses", he is not finicky with his visitors, even if they are wearing "just shorts and slippers".
The boxer's rags-to-riches story, from being a fish vendor in his hometown to winning world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions, has made him wildly popular in the Philippines.
He used his boxing fame to get elected to Congress in 2010 and like many wealthy Filipino politicians, he frequently has to meet with constituents asking for hand-outs and favours.
Pacquiao said he would buy a new house where he could accomodate more visitors, who are mostly seeking financial assistance.
"If there's somebody who is willing to buy, I'm going to sell it," Pacquiao said of the Manila property, which he acquired for 400 million pesos ($9 million) in 2011.
He added that he wants to make a profit from the sale as he had made renovations.
The 35-year-old said he apologised to his neighbours, though some understood why he was accommodating poor visitors.
"I may be as rich as some of them here, but my lifestyle remains the same and so is my heart. I am just a simple man. I will never change that," he said.
The three-storey mansion -- in a neighbourhood that is home to Manila's old rich -- has five bedrooms, several reception and dining halls, and an office.
Pacquiao also owns a fleet of luxury cars, and his hometown mansion in southern Philippines has a pool shaped like a boxing glove.
He beat American Chris Algieri in Macau last Sunday, in a match that proved to fans that he still has what it takes to face arch-rival Floyd Mayweather.

A wedding made in heaven: they both fell inlove with each other at first glance, until death-never parted

Many couples dream about a perfect wedding. Since it happens only once in our lifetime, we intend to make it one of the best memories we can share with our future children and grandchildren.

Two people can be perfectly in love, head-over-heels over each other, and still do not rush into marriage. Not for reasons that they are having second thoughts, but because they want it to be something more than special. Being wed to somebody you love wholeheartedly is never too late.

This couple proved that it IS in fact, never too late. They intended to marry but were both caught in a motorcycle accident. While a funeral should be a time of mourning, the atmosphere was happy as the bride and groom looked beautiful as ever.

” Last November 18 2014 I was shocked to hear the sad news that my dear friend Kat and her long time boyfriend Julio had a worse motorcycle accident which had led them to their death-together. This happening taught me so many things and urged me to write this post to share my thoughts with  you.

Kat is one of the sweetest girl you will ever meet. She has these sweet charming eyes that could melt you down, shiny lips that  always paints a smile and rosy cheeks that always turns red. Kat is a sensitive girl. She cries easily, laughs easily and falls in love easily. She always sees the good in everything and in everyone that  is why she could make friends with everybody and appreciate the good side rather dwell on the bad side of people.

JR on the other hand belongs to the goons of our high school campus. You cannot imagine them being together with Kat being a silent sweet girl. I think she is too sensitive to have a relationship with a typical playboy. :-) Yet Julio was also a leader like Kat and Kat never missed to see this good side of his.

It all started with a “Hi Kat!” from Julio when we were walking on the path walk right in front of the teacher’s office. What Kat heard was not Julio’s voice but cupid’s arrow striking her straight to the heart! They started texting however at that time Julio was still in a relationship with one of our classmates. That  is why Kat was hooked in the theme song “Borrowed Time” by Cueshe because they were just borrowing the happy times that they had spent together in the pavilion  at the back of the school building. Well, well God always has his creative ways of bringing them together and giving them the time that is exclusively theirs. Eventually they started this great  journey of being together as boyfriend and girlfriend. -and the rest  is history-

The last time I saw Kat we were talking about when we will both get married and she said that she would want to be married at 28. I jokingly answered her that i’ll be dead by that time and I could still remember how she laughed. The last talk we had was just about her posts where Julio sends her gifts all the time. I jokingly told her that she should take it down because many girls envy how she is loved and how she loves his BF.

And now they have embarked on another journey where they could even love each other more. Last November 22, 2014 5pm, JR and Kat was blessed by an officiating priest to be together in love. It was our first time to feel two couples being wedded after death. 4 hours before the ceremony started our elementary and highschool classmates gathered together to witness the blessing of the so-called wedding that they had. Instead of being sad and devastated, the environment was so happy that JR and Kat looked really beautiful and handsome. I know that they were looking down and following the ceremony that we were having. As the mass started, I just closed my eyes and imagined Kat in that stunning wedding gown and Julio, teary-eyed, waiting to have her bride on his arms as his wife.

I wish we all have this kind of love, a love that until death-never parts.

Kat and JR, thank you for teaching us to love as how you have loved. Thank you for teaching us that life is too short for hatred, worry and envy. And most of all.. thank you for teaching us that no matter how painful life would end, our body is just a vessel and our spirit will surely flourish when we are surrounded with the people whom we shared this gift of life.

Congratulations! Your love will live long in our hearts! Mabuhay ang bagong kasal! “

The whole thing happened in just 30 seconds.

Police are now looking for two men who robbed a softdrink dealer in Baliwag, Bulacan. The men took around P500,000 in cash.

CCTV footage shows that prior to the robbery, the softdrink dealer was counting cash with her secretary. They happened to have a large amount at the store that day because they were set to pay for the extension work being done at the store, as well as deposit some of their earnings.

The softdrink dealer and the secretary were then shocked when two armed men barged into the store and declared a robbery. One of the men was wearing a motorcycle helmet, while the other man was not.
In about 30 seconds, the men were able to take the cash and flee from the store on a motorcycle.

A witness revealed he saw the two men on a motorcycle going around the area for about 30 minutes before the robbery happened.
The softdrink dealer and her secretary may have already identified one of the men through a photo line-up presented by the police. It’s possible that the man is the same suspect in another robbery case in Pulilan, Bulacan.

Even as he prepares for his upcoming title clash against Chris Algieri, word is spreading about Manny Pacquiao allegedly putting up his Forbes Park mansion for sale.
Mansion matters
The Philippine Star columnist Babe Romualdez said that the eight-division champion, who has been hounded by his P3 billion-tax liability case, is selling the 1,500-square meter property for P708 million.
“One of our real estate informants told Spy Bits that Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao is about to sell his house located at Cambridge Circle in Forbes Park for P708 million,” Romualdez said in his column Spybits.
Pacquiao bought the mansion for P388 million back in 2011 while he was still the world's pound-for-pound champion.
Pacquiao is set to earn a guaranteed $25 million (roughly P1.1 billion) in his WBO welterweight title defense against Algieri in Macau this weekend.
Pacman's BIR woes
The fighting congressman, who also recently dabbled in professional basketball, is locked in a legal battle with the BIR and the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) over his tax liability.
The bureau is going after Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee for allegedly failing to settle his tax deficiencies with the government, which have ballooned to over P3 billion.
Pacquiao sought the help of the CTA, but the court has asked the boxer to cough up a cash bond of P3.2 billion or a P4 billion surety bond.
He went to the Supreme Court, which issued a temporary restraining order on the tax case.
Palace message to Pacman
MalacaƱang, meanwhile, wished Pacquiao all the best in his Macau fight.
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said the whole country is hoping for their hero's victory on Sunday.
"Nawa'y pagpalain siya ng Panginoon na magkaroon ng sapat na lakas at gilas upang maipagwagi ang laban niya at magdulot ng ibayong karangalan sa bansang Pilipinas!" he said in a statement.
"We are confident that the Pacman will bear the flag proudly again this time," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said for her part.
The ruling Liberal Party (LP)’s “sentimental” choice for standard-bearer in 2016 is willing to stay out of the race if President Aquino’s choice would turn out to be somebody else.

In an interview here, Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II said he is prepared to accept whoever is chosen by Aquino or the LP as the party’s presidential bet in the 2016 general elections.

“I will accept it. I did not declare I’m running anyway,” Roxas said when asked by The STAR of his next move if the President picks someone else as party standard-bearer. Aquino is LP chairman.

“It’s good that LP, including the President himself, will look, search for the best bet in 2016. It’s a normal process,” Roxas said, referring to the consensus building within the LP to pick its standard-bearer.

President Aquino told reporters on Tuesday he is also looking outside the LP for his preferred successor in the 2016 elections. He said he is consulting other parties regarding the matter while the ruling party is in the process of building a consensus.

LP stalwarts including its vice chairman Senate President Franklin Drilon and acting president Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya voiced their preference for Roxas.

They said many if not most LP members still consider the DILG chief their “sentimental” choice for party standard-bearer.

“I would prefer an LP member to be the standard bearer in 2016,” Drilon said on Tuesday in reaction to the President’s pronouncement.

“If you ask me, personally, my opinion is Secretary Mar Roxas is most qualified to continue the reforms of the President, daang matuwid (straight path). Other members of the party will have their own opinion as well, so it’s just a matter of processing everyone’s opinion,” Abaya said.

On Thursday night, Roxas reportedly held a secret meeting with elected officials of Butuan City and Agusan del Norte in an undisclosed place.

Roxas’ media relations officer Van Evangelista confirmed the meeting but declined to elaborate, saying she was not privy to what was discussed.

DILG-Caraga information officer Don Patrimonio said Roxas and his entourage arrived in Butuan City Thursday afternoon.

He said the DILG chief, shortly after his arrival at 4 p.m., went to the Butuan Doctor’s Hospital along with some ranking police officials to give awards to wounded policemen who figured in an encounter with communist rebels in Surigao del Sur recently.

The following day, Patrimonio said Roxas attended a disaster forum held at a local hotel and convention center here.

Before leaving Butuan City yesterday, Roxas reportedly met with local government officials led by Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. and his first cousin, Agusan del Norte Gov. Maria Angelica Rossdell Amante at another hotel.

Roxas also had a luncheon meeting with some businessmen, miners and political supporters, including DILG and national police officials, sources said.

Barangay official Rey Booc of Barangay San Ignacio, Butuan City told THE STAR that Roxas appeared to be determined to run for president – with Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano as running mate  – judging from his words and demeanor during his meeting with officials.

“Secretary Mar Roxas will definitely run in 2016 in tandem with Senator Alan Cayetano. I think this was already announced unofficially and secretly by top brass of the party but it’s okay because we will support him since he will be the standard bearer of the administration,” the barangay official said.

Another barangay official said that while Roxas may have the support of partymates and police officials, he may have to do more to make himself more appealing to the masses.
Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday warned critics he would pursue criminal charges against them.
“I will sue them. I will not accept the lies they are peddling against me,” Binay said in Filipino in a press conference here.
Binay, however, refused to name those who would be facing his wrath.
He said he has been accused of graft and corruption before the Office of the Ombudsman even when he was the mayor of Makati City.
“These accusations against me are all lies. There is nothing new, even when I was the mayor of Makati, sacks full of accusations were hurled against me and I was not even suspended, even once,” Binay said.
Binay said his family had been hurting from the accusations.
“I am a hypocrite if I wouldn’t admit that I am hurting. But one thing good about this controversy, my family remains solid,” he said.
Binay denied the recent allegations of former Makati vice mayor Ernesto Mercado before the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee.
Mercado alleged Binay owns a condominium unit in Makati using Ariel Olivar as a dummy.
Binay said Mercado was getting desperate in his allegations.
Binay said he is confident that despite his critics “crucifying” him, it would not stop him from pursuing his presidential ambition in 2016.
Binay added he has been explaining to the Filipino people his side about the ongoing Senate hearings and sees no need to attend them.
His wife, former Makati mayor Elenita Binay, however, is facing graft and malversation charges before the Sandiganbayan.
The anti-graft court yesterday decided to postpone the arraignment of Mrs. Binay and other respondents in the case until all pending motions and petitions yet to be filed are resolved.
The Vice President arrived here last Tuesday and visited residents in Barangay Tisa and had a boodle fight while attending the barangay assembly in Lapu Lapu City.
Binay also went to the towns of Tabogon, Medellin, San Remegio, Daanbantayan and Bogo City, which were some of the areas affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
Binay said the government has bidded out the construction of 200 housing units for the families displaced by Yolanda in Tabuelan, Cebu last year.
“On the basis of our studies, there were 200 houses here totally wrecked by Yolanda. So I gave an update. The 200 houses were bidded out yesterday,” he told Cebu-based journalists after his meeting with local officials.
Binay is concurrently chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and head of the Yolanda Resettlement Cluster.
Binay said the HUDCC is drafting the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Administrative Order (AO) 44 signed by President Aquino last Oct. 30.
AO 44 intends to fast-track the issuance of permits and clearances for housing and resettlement projects for areas affected by Yolanda.
“There is an AO 44 to hasten the process. So this is one of the things that we will discuss tomorrow with the agencies concerned,” Binay said, noting many of the affected areas have no alienable and disposable lands.
In other areas, such as Bantayan island, there are problems with the land titles, as well as forest lands and many other inalienable properties.
Binay said Yolanda destroyed 22,423 houses in 16 towns of Cebu, including Tabuelan, 220; Bantayan, 3,520; Bogo City, 1,500; Borbon, 400; Daanbantayan, 4,363; Madridejos, 3,693; and Medellin, 1,200.
The monster storm also ruined 660 houses in Pilar, 275 in Poro, 1,960 in San Francisco, 1,224 in San Remegio, 2,305 in Santa Fe, 491 in Sogod, 184 in Tabogon, 170 in Tuburan, and 258 in Tudela.
Binay also led the turnover of wheelchairs, sphygmomanometers, nebulizers and stethoscopes in Daanbantayan.
He also met with local officials of Lapu Lapu City, Tabogon, Medellin, Bogo, San Remigio and Asturias to get an update regarding their housing projects and offer the assistance of key shelter agencies.  –  Mitchelle Palaubsanon/The Freeman, Helen Flores, Michael Punongbayan

Anti-pork groups will hold another rally in Luneta on August 25 to gather enough signatures for a " People's Initiative to abolish pork."

Anti-pork groups will hold another rally in Luneta on August 25 to gather enough signatures for a " People's Initiative to abolish pork."
Inday Varona, a member of the People's Initiative Against Pork preparations committee, said organizers will arrive at Rizal Park as early as 4 a.m. for the event titled "Stand Up, Sign Up Against All Pork."
August 25 is also National Heroes' Day.

Meanwhile, the Abolish Pork Movement said the Supreme Court (SC) rulings against lawmakers' Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) and the Aquino administration's Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) are not enough.
In fact, the group has drafted a bill making the said acts illegal.
Monet Silvestre, spokesperson of the group, told ANC only supplemental budgets for disaster relief and intelligence are allowed under the bill.
"It's a set of handcuffs that we will apply to any government official so that their hands will be tied when it comes to lump sum appropriations," Silvestre said in an interview on Mornings@ANC.
"The law will definitely put a stamp on the definition of savings. Basically put, savings is any money left over at the end of the fiscal year, which is December, not June or July," he added.
They need to gather 5.4 million signatures or 3 percent of every legislative district, equivalent to 10 percent of the total voting population, to back the bill.
Upon verification, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will then be mandated to hold a referendum.
Former Chief Justice Renato Puno and members of the civil sector initiated the move last year.

The woman was found hanging in the toilet area, while the little girl had slashes on both wrists.

A 34-year-old woman named Lea Canete and her three-year-old daughter were found dead inside a pension house in Bacolod City on Friday.

Canete's body was found hanging in the toilet area. A nylon rope was used to hang her. A towel covered her mouth.

Her daughter, Lean, had slashes on both wrists.

According to the Women's and Children's Protection Desk, the victims checked in Thursday night. However, at around noon on Friday they failed to check out. This prompted the roomboy to check them.

Police are now conducting follow-up investigation to determine if there was foul play in the incident.

Authorities will also check if the pension house has a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the area to determine who the victims were with before they were killed.

Pliers were used for pulling out five of the man's teeth.

A man died after he went to a faith healer to have his teeth extracted.
The victim was identified as Jerry Aguirre, a resident of Manapla, Negros Occidental.
Aguirre's sister, Joane dela Cruz, said Aguirre went out to have his teeth pulled.
She thought her brother went to a doctor but it turned out that sought out an ispiritista or faith healer to help him with his dental problem.
It was later revealed that the faith healer, identified only as "Dodoy," used pliers to pull out five of  Aguirre's teeth.
Dela Cruz said her brother was weak when he arrived home.
He went to sleep and then they found him dead on his bed the following day.
Based on his death certificate, signed by Dr. Eriberto Jayme, Municipal Health Officer, Aguirre died of "septic embolism, secondary to dental foci, which was caused by bacterial infection."
Authorities said the faith healer involved in the incident may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
Meanwhile, "Dodoy" admitted that it was his first time to actually extract a tooth from a person, as he usually only performs rituals and prayers on his patients.
He has asked forgiveness from the victim's family, but they have decided to file charges against him.

Police in Calumpit, Bulacan are now looking for the fourth suspect in the rape and murder of 26-year-old Anria Espritu. The man, a jeepney driver, was reportedly seen in Apalit, Pampanga.

Three suspects detained, one at large

The police already have the three other suspects in custody—jeepney drivers Elmer Joson, Ramil de Arca, and Melvin Ulam. They have been charged for rape with homicide at the Bulacan Prosecutor’s Office.

Despite a witness positively identifying them, they have all maintained their innocence.

What happened to Anria?

Police investigation shows that Espiritu boarded Joson’s jeepney sometime around 1 a.m. on Thursday, August 14. Sometime after that, she was loaded onto De Arca’s vehicle.

As De Arca—who goes by the alias “Bakulaw”—drove his jeepney, Ulam, Joson, and the fourth man made sure that the victim could not get away.

This is contrary to Joson’s claim that he last saw Espiritu when she allegedly got down at Bagbag.

The evidence 'speaks'

Espiritu’s body was later found naked from the waist down in a rice field in Barangay Sapang Bayan. She had been stabbed multiple times—mostly in her neck, as well as her back and nape.

A screwdriver, which may have been used to stab her multiple times, was found in the crime scene. A chain, which most likely used to choke Espiritu was also found near her body.

Espiritu’s relatives became suspicious of Joson when he attended the victim’s wake, as the jeepney driver had scratches all over his body. Although Joson’s live-in partner, Delia Dionisia, said that she was the one who scratched him, police weren’t convinced by her claim.

Witness allegedly threatened

As police intensify their search for the suspect who is still at large, they also have to ensure the safety of the witnesses in the rape-slay case—including one who has reportedly been getting death threats.

Espritu will be buried on Saturday.
